Position: Teacher (CTE - Technology/STEM)
Location: West Lincoln Middle School
Terms of Contract: 10 Months, Full-time, benefit eligible
Reports To: Principal
Monthly Salary: Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)
FLSA: EXEMPT
Qualifications/Requirements: Must hold or be eligible to hold an 820-Technology Education North Carolina teaching license Related Degrees: most STEM-related degrees, Industrial Arts, Industrial Design, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering.
Goal: To develop in middle grades pupils an understanding of technology/technological systems and their place in the nation’s economy; to explore various careers affected by 21st century technological systems; to develop practical skills for personal use or for use in technology-related occupations; to encourage students to continue further study in CTE-related pathways in high school; and to develop work and personal habits essential for success in various technology-related careers.
Duties:
Teach knowledge and technical skills to middle school pupils in all technology areas as deemed appropriate within the licensure and certification.
Use the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and NC Essential Standards to develop appropriate learning activities
Instruct students in the following MS courses: Exploring Technology/STEM, Technological Systems in the Designed World/Robotics and Exploring Engineering and Design
Develop lesson plans and prepare appropriate instructional aids, display materials and digital learning activities per NCDPI Course Standards to enhance learning
Demonstrate skills and techniques routinely used in the technological field
Organize instructional materials and classroom activities so that demonstration, instruction and student practice are completed within the allotted time
Evaluate each pupil’s academic performance, knowledge and technical skills and accurately prepare grade/progress reports
Instruct pupils in the use, care and safe operation of instructional equipment.
Make minor adjustments and request repairs to equipment as required
Maintain an auditable record of pupil attendance and make daily reports
Control and maintain district-owned equipment and supplies to prevent loss or abuse
Establish and maintain orderly standards of behavior needed to provide an effective and productive learning environment
Instruct pupils in the importance of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, work ethic and soft skills as appropriate
Communicate with parents/guardians as required by school administration
Evaluate, select, and requisition books, instructional aids, equipment, and instructional supplies and maintain required inventory records
Participate in any CTE and/or middle grades professional development activities required and recommended by the school and district office
Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities such as Robotics or STEM clubs
Maintain continued contact with business community to keep in touch with job entry requirements and current business methods and equipment
Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
Other duties as assigned
