Predator guards for bird nest boxes.
Made of 4-inch inside diameter PVC pipe, schedule 40 (the heavy grade), 4 feet long.
The guard simply slips over the post or pipe supporting the bird box (See photo.
), and is too slick to allow snakes, raccoons, and cats to climb to the box.
Painted brown to be attractive in your landscape.
The material cost alone for the pipe is $14.
I don't dislike snakes, but I do not want them eating baby birds, as happened with the photo of a black rat snake inside a nest box, where there HAD been five baby bluebirds.
A cone-type guard was ineffective at keeping this guy from climbing.
