The Gardner-Webb University Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion will assist the Director of Diversity and Inclusion in providing strategic vision and effective leadership to strengthen intercultural education and experiences for traditional undergraduate students and the broader campus community.
This position also serves as a Designated School Official for registering international students.
Summary of Responsibilities Include: · Carry out activities to enhance the visibility of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and campus community DEI-related efforts; this includes coordinating the department social media presence through the dedicated Instagram page, and working with relevant campus partners to provide input for and updating the Diversity and Inclusion website; · Oversee marketing of the center and its events to students and the campus community in print, and online; · Work with Student Engagement staff to coordinate and facilitate diversity and inclusion sessions at new and transfer students' orientation; · Serve as the primary advisor and mentor to cultural student organizations to develop, assess, and implement events that address the cultural, educational, and social needs of a diverse student population; · Assist the Director with the preparation of programs and/or gather information about campus diversity programs and activities representing History and Celebration months, such as Latinx Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, Black History Month, and Women's History Month; · Engage students, faculty, and staff to further behaviors, attitudes, and policies that support the Director of Diversity and Inclusion in the identification, planning, and implementation of educational programming and training to make the University more diverse, equitable, and inclusive community; · Interpret and apply state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and policies relating to international students.
Acts as college’s Designated School Officer (DSO) under guidelines established by the United States Department of Homeland Security and compiles reports as required by federal regulations; · Orient international students to the academic systems and support services of Gardner-Webb University, its culture, the country’s educational system, and the U.
S.
culture in general through implementing an International Student Orientation · Serve on the multicultural advisory board, various committees, and workgroups to enhance students' academic and personal growth; · Participate as a member of the Student Development Team; · Serve on University committees as deemed necessary; · Articulate, support, and uphold the University’s Christian mission and values; · Complete special projects and perform other duties assigned by the Director of Diversity and Inclusion; · Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications: · Possess a minimum educational requirement of a bachelor's degree, though a Master's degree is preferred.
· Be self-motivated, creative, and flexible, have excellent communication skills, outstanding inter-personal abilities, a sense of humor and an interest in professional growth.
· At least two to three years of professional experience working in diversity and inclusion specifically in conceptualizing, planning, and executing programs and policies.
· Proficiency in developing and delivering professional development sessions for students and col-leagues of all departments and levels.
· The ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Advanced oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office Suite.
