The Survey Project Manager assists the Practice Area Leader in leadership and management of the survey division ensuring the quality and accuracy of survey data, calculations, and reports.
They possess knowledge of land surveying principles and practices and are responsible for the effective schedules, contracts, budgets, and accuracy of all projects.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and assist with the supervision of McGill survey department activities.
Communicate with clients, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to establish project requirements, specifications, and expectations.
Assist with survey proposals, contracts, budgets, and schedules.
Perform research and calculations to prepare jobs for field surveying activities.
Perform survey adjustments and analysis of field data gathered by McGill survey crews.
Perform complex surveying tasks such as boundary determination and surface modeling.
Ensure the quality and accuracy of survey data, calculations, and reports.
Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff.
Review and certify survey drawings and reports.
Manage and maintain survey equipment, software, and records.
Be a morale booster.
Serves on Committees and Teams as requested by management.
Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Professional land surveyor license Required (preferable in NC & TN)
Degree in surveying, civil engineering, or related field preferred
Minimum of eight years of experience in surveying and engineering projects
Proficient in using surveying instruments, software, and methods.
Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record and the ability to obtain security clearance.
Must have the physical ability to work outdoors in all weather for extended periods of time and be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Ability to travel and work on projects throughout North Carolina and the surrounding states
Strong technical, documentation, and organizational skills
Ability to identify potential conflicts and issues.
Understanding of how underground utility systems work and ability to obtain below grade measurements without confined space entry.
Thorough knowledge and experience operating surveying equipment
Experience in the use of surveying software: AutoCAD Civil3D, TBC, Bentley MicroStation
Knowledge of survey data collection principles, practices, methods and procedures
Proficient in reading engineering, architectural, and structural drawings
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
