Maiden Fire Department is currently seeking 3 highly motivated individuals to serve in the capacity of Firefighter.

*Job Title: *Firefighter *Shift Schedule: *This is a full-time, shift based position working the Charlotte Fire type schedule.
*Purpose of Job:* The Firefighter is responsible for performing assigned fire suppression duties; responding to emergency medical incidents; maintaining apparatus, equipment, and building facilities; participating in training drills, fire prevention activities and assigned departmental projects.
*Primary Tasks:* · Responds to emergency and non-emergency incidents.
· Performs maintenance and repair of fire equipment to ensure that all equipment is maintained and in a state of readiness for emergency response.
· Participates in fire and other emergency operations and activities.
· Tracks and ensures return of all equipment and supplies at the incident scene; ensures that equipment is returned to a state of readiness upon return to the station.
· Provides responses to emergency medical incidents and administers emergency medical care at the EMT- B level.
· Participates in fire prevention and public educational programs and tours; and participates in fire hazard surveys.
· Performs hydrant testing/maintenance and pre-incident planning of commercial buildings.
· Assist in keeping fire station in good condition by cleaning interior of station and performs building and grounds maintenance.
· Performs other duties as required.
*Equipment Operated: *Fire apparatus, forcible entry equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, generators, ventilation equipment and other assigned equipment.
*Reporting Relationship:* This position reports to the Fire Chief.
*Worki*n*g Conditions: *Work involves exposure to hazards of firefighting work, involves some degree of risk to personal safety and is often performed under stressful emergency conditions.
*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * · Knowledge of modern firefighting principles, practices and procedures.
· Knowledge of firefighting rules and regulations.
· Knowledge of emergency medical principles and skill in their applications.
· Knowledge of OSHA and Blood Borne Pathogens · Considerable knowledge of tools, equipment, fire apparatus and equipment used in firefighting operations.
Skilled in the operation of equipment and it’s maintenance.
· Considerable knowledge of the principles of hydraulics applied to fire suppression.
· Ability to recognize fire hazards and to exercise safety precautions to prevent injury to the employee and others.
· Ability to exercise sound judgement in routine and emergency situations.
· Ability to prepare fire related reports.
· Working knowledge of computers, faxes and other office equipment, and Microsoft Office · Ability to deal courteously with the public and maintain effective working relationships with other members of the department and Town Staff.
· Good physical shape- Must be clean and neat in appearance and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting/carrying of 150 lbs, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and perform repetitive motions.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate trucks and other equipment.
*Education and Experience: * · Must have a High School Diploma or GED · Experience as a Volunteer or Paid Firefighter · Must be a minimum of 18 years of age *Special Requirements:* · Must have North Carolina Firefighter Certification 2018 or Firefighter 1 & 2 · Must have NC Emergency Medical Technician – Basic Certification · NC TR/VMR Certification or ability to obtain within 2 years of employment.
· No Resident Mileage Requirements but will discuss during hiring process.
