Performs intermediate skilled human support work providing life support and emergency medical care and related work as apparent or assigned.
Work is performed and supervised under the limited supervision of the Paramedic.
The normal work schedule is determined by a rotation schedule based on a 12-hour or 24-hour shifts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides intermediate level of life support and medical emergency treatments to patients at the accident or illness scenes and during transport to medical facilities Operates the convalescent unit transporting patients to a variety of locations and serves as a crew member on an advanced life support unit as needed.
Ensures quality emergency patient care standards are in place, proper equipment and treatment are available, and sound judgement and treatment decisions are made.
Completes necessary records and reports for emergency calls including information for billing documentation, and legal accountability.
Reports facility maintenance, radio, vehicle and equipment problems to appropriate level of authority.
Assists with daily cleaning and inventorying of emergency equipment, supplies, fluids, administration sets and drugs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; general knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment and automobile extraction and transportation; general knowledge of the reading of electrocardiograms; general knowledge of the principles of anatomy, physiology and chemistry in relation to the respiratory and circulatory systems; thorough knowledge of the street system and geography of the County; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to keep simple records and prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED and one to three years' experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Associates/Technical degree preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and lifting, frequently requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to outdoor weather conditions, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.
g.
business office, light traffic).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: EMT Advanced Certification Required to upgrade to paramedic status within three years of date of hire TR certification must be completed three years from date of hire Medpat is required upon employment and each subsequent year.
