Position Summary CDL Instructor under the general direction of the Site Manager, performs duties related to delivering the appropriate instructional The program as set forth by Trans Tech to assist in instruction, evaluation, and preparation of new trainees in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential.
Role Responsibilities A CDL Instructor has many responsibilities including conducting commercial driver training in a classroom, one-on-one, and hands-on settings by establishing and communicating clear objectives for all learning activities.
Whether in the classroom, on the yard, or in the truck they must be able to present information utilizing a variety of instructional techniques or formats, i.

, role-playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, and videos while utilizing relevant technology to support instruction.
Key areas where they provide in-person instruction to students includes full pre/post-trip inspections, basic control skills (curves, turning, backing, urban/rural sections, expressways, bridge underpasses, intersections, emergency protocols, handling adverse weather conditions, altering driving habits with heavier weight loads, passing, signaling, shifting, and driving on upgrades and downgrades), coupling and uncoupling trailers, logbook management, and over-the-road driving.
It is important that they also maintain accurate records of attendance, class completions, evaluations, and coaching sessions in the appropriate systems.
Additionally, they are responsible for encouraging and monitoring the progress of individual students and communicate necessary information regularly to students concerning such progress.
Finally, they must perform safety-related functions including, but not limited to, accident reviews, skills and behavior assessments, model safe behaviors and professional interactions with all students, and ensure all students are operating equipment safely and within company policy and expectations.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS A CDL Instructor is required to have many talents and skills in his/her tool bag to be successful as a teacher/trainer.
Of those the ability to train, coach, evaluate knowledge and skills, learn, use technology, possess strong presentation talents, facilitation skills, and maintain an appropriate professional presence are key to being able to connect effectively with students.
The ability to demonstrate empathy with students and having the knowledge of the principles and practices of safe commercial vehicle driving, are critical elements in being the difference to the student’s success.
It is also imperative that a CDL Instructor model our company’s mission, vision, and values, while providing excellent customer service and support; and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
Finally, we work as a team of individuals committed to an exemplary ethical presence when interacting with students, our peers, and the community at large while managing shifting priorities and exercising sound judgment within scope of position responsibilities.
Skills and competencies A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Instructor is required to have the necessary disciplined technical skills to effectively teach students in all aspects of how to safely operate a commercial rated vehicle in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
To support this, communication and interpersonal skills competencies play a key role in being able to assess a student’s skill performance and provide the appropriate guidance pertaining to performing driving maneuvers on the range as well as on the road.
Also, having the aptitude to optimize technology during the teaching process allows the CDL Instructor to connect with the students using various mediums of delivery.
A CDL Instructor must also analyze situations, details, and performance to best guide a student’s development in areas where learning gaps might be noticeable, and to identify and resolve issues that evolve during the training process.
And finally, an instructor must be able to organize lesson plans based on the targeted curriculum to achieve the desired result of providing the best CDL drivers for American businesses.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS To be a CDL Instructor one must have a valid CDL Class A license, and a DOT Medical Card.
A CDL Examiner Certification is optional but also helpful in being able to provide a greater services to our clients.
Qualifications * Class A CDL Holder.
* At least 23 years old.
* 5+ Years driving of commercial truck driving experience.
* Clean driving and criminal records.
* Good personal appearance.
* Able to complete and pass a DOT Physical and Drug Screen.
* Reliable transportation.
* Ability to work some weekends.
* High School diploma or GED.
