Description: Job Description and Duties The Financial Controller role will be responsible for the integrity and accuracy of UCS’ accounting and finance function and for the administrative, financial and risk management operations of the company.
The position will require production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
The Controller will manage the company’s accounting and finance operations and is responsible for General Ledger accounting, all account reconciliation duties, Accounts Receivable and Collections, Accounts Payable, and Payroll.
The role will be a leadership position that requires the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.
The Controller will work directly with executive leadership, plant manufacturing, office personnel and procurement management in daily decision making and the development of performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction as well as financial and production goals.
The specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Oversee daily operations of the accounting and finance department, including managing procurement and administrative functions such as treasury management, payroll, inventory control, accounts payable and accounts receivable/collections Direct and coordinate the company financial planning and budget management functions including administrative and vendor payments with direct supervision of 3-5 staff members Complete the month end close and financial reporting for various entities with balance sheet and bank account reconciliations as necessary Issue timely and complete monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Statement of Cash Flows) with data packages and analyses on key operating metrics to all key stakeholders Construct and monitor reliable control systems, policies, and procedures and assist with implementing, documenting, and maintaining those system controls and procedures.
Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the financial and operating performance of company divisions and departments and develop performance measures and incentive systems that support the company's strategic direction.
Meet on a regular basis with business unit manager's to mentor, teach and lead staff members to a full understanding of budgets and report analysis.
Oversee employee benefit plans (401k, insurance) with an emphasis on maximizing cost-effective benefits Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements and that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies Manage the production of the annual budget and forecast in a participative manner and calculate monthly variances from the budget and report significant issues to management Special, ad-hoc projects and financial analyses as assigned by the Management team, including but not limited to product-line profitability analysis, pricing decisions, product costing, gross margin analysis, business planning strategy, capital investments and contract negotiations.
Collaborate with other departments on projects related to inventory, engineering, sales, marketing, and R&D Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings Prepare documents for and work with the external Tax CPA to coordinate year-end, federal and state tax reporting Process payroll and all payroll related tax filings and payments in a timely manner Create and enter G/L journal entries as necessary Requirements: Job Requirements and Qualifications: The following is a list of minimum qualifications required of the Financial Controller: Work Experience and Knowledge: 10+ years of public, corporate, or cost accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing.
A background in manufacturing, assembly, fulfilment, shipping, inventory management and supply chain is a plus.
Strong knowledge of and experience with cost/management accounting, standard costing, financial reporting and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, internal controls systems and processes, inventory control measures, full cycle accounting and month end closings on large ERP systems Educational: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with concentration in Accounting and/or Cost Accounting.
Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Accounting or Finance and the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.
Technical: High proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word, experience with datasets, financial modeling and forecasting, budgeting, and various other financial analyses Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning systems (Aptean Intuitive preferred) and capacity to learn new data applications.
Experience with SQL, Power BI, a plus.
Personal: Strong interpersonal, written, communication and organization skills with experience working with outside professionals including banks, lessors, attorneys, insurance companies, and tax CPAs Self-starter, driven and lifelong learner with personal qualities of integrity, credibility, hands-on strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills that allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
Analytic and systems skills to drive continuous improvements in existing processes and ability to develop new reporting systems to better support management decision making Additional Information: The position includes: a competitive base salary annual variable compensation plan paid time off and holidays health insurance 401K minimal travel Working Conditions: Primarily in an office environment.
Will be expected to travel as needed to company subsidiaries, as well as to potential acquisition targets to conduct due diligence.
