*Paralegal/Legal Assistant* Law Offices of Matthew K.
Rogers, PLLC – Hickory, NC 28601 *About us* We practice Business Law and Civil Litigation focusing primarily on business and contract matters.
We practice mostly in the Western North Carolina State Courts, but occasionally appear in both Federal Courts and in the North Carolina Business Court.
*Responsibilities:* - Perform general clerical duties, such as answering phone calls, managing calendars, and handling correspondence, filing, mailings, and ordering of office supplies.
- Organize and maintain case files and other legal documents - Proofread legal documents for accuracy and completeness - Calendaring deadlines, reminders, and preparing Motions for Extension of Time.
- Interview clients, witnesses, and other parties involved in legal cases - Assist attorney in preparing legal documents, such as pleadings (Complaints, Answers, Counterclaims), Motions and Briefs.
- Work with Clerks and Trial Court Coordinators to schedule hearings.
- Assist with Hearing and Trial preparation, including exhibit lists (created in MS Excel with hyperlinks) and hard copies to provide witnesses.
Preparing and serving Trial subpeonas, working with outside printers to prepare demonstrative exhibits, etc.
- Assist with Discovery, including formatting Interrogatories, Document Production Requests and Requests for Admission.
Bates stamping discovery responses and cataloging discovery responses received from opposing parties, including adding electronic versions to firm management software and server.
- Coordinate depositions, Court reporters, and videographers.
- Assist with occasional Appeals work, such as ordering transcripts, preparing records on appeal, cite checking and working on appeals.
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant information for cases *Qualifications:* - Previous experience working as a paralegal or legal assistant, or in administrative and customer service roles - Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize deadlines - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all work performed - Project management skills to effectively handle multiple cases simultaneously Preferred: - Degree in Paralegal Studies or related field a plus - Strong knowledge of litigation procedures and legal terminology - Proficiency in using Clio (firm management software) or similar document management system, and in Microsoft software - Word and Excel.
